Substance Abuse Prevention Education Committee
(S.A.P.E.C)
Plan of Action
Overview:
The S.A.P.E.C. will consist of no less than two Board of Education members, two building level administrators, the guidance counselor, and no less than two teachers from each building (Elementary, Middle, and High School.) The committee will work cooperatively to plan a substance abuse prevention education program to be offered to the students of Illini Bluffs throughout the school year.
Budget:
Recent conservative estimates provided by the Board for a Random-Drug Testing Program places costs at $3,000. With this in mind, the S.A.P.E.C. group will maintain a yearly operational budget of no less than $3,000 to be provided in the district's financial plan. Funds may be provided through state and/or federal grant programs, school financial resources, anonymous donors, etc.
Deliverables:
- Representatives from the Board of Education, administration, and teachers of Illini Bluffs agree to participate in the Substance Abuse Prevention Education Committee (S.A.P.E.C.)
- By no later than September 23, 2011 the S.A.P.E.C. members shall be listed and presented publicly. (Board meeting is on September 19)
- By no later than October 15th, the S.A.P.E.C. will have met and developed a plan of action, including meeting dates and times to be presented to the Board at the regularly scheduled October School Board Meeting
- At each regularly scheduled Board Meeting, the S.A.P.E.C. will provide an update to the community
- The S.A.P.E.C. will maintain a website for the purpose of posting their plan of action, list of community members, substance abuse prevention resources, and other pertinent information
- After the conclusion of the last S.A.P.E.C. event, the committee will hold one final meeting to provide a yearly review, complete a program evaluation and establish members and meeting schedule for the following year
*Note:
The S.A.P.E.C program will not replace the current SNOWFLAKE event planned by teachers and students at Illini Bluffs. The S.A.P.E.C. planned program must provide educational opportunities for students aside from SNOWFLAKE but may assist the SNOWFLAKE program as desired.
